My goodness, what a ride this has been! Sadly, this is looking like my last post for this blog, but fear not! I'd like to do another one of these if I attend another LAN in the near future (SnS, anyone?). As I mentioned in my last update, I want to again thank A.C., Eirik, and the rest of EGtv staff for putting on another top notch event, as this one was as much fun as I had hoped, and then some! Other people I wanna thank, acknowledge, or give a shout-out to include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • My G5 team: Alecat, Nicosaur, and Blush for being AWESOME people, for travelling as far as you did just to attend G5, and for giving me the ability to play at this event. We made redemption bracket, which I think all of us are very happy with, considering we had never all played together before!

  • OctoPops: Though we don't talk much, I was happy that I got to see you again (especially since you reminded me we did meet at SquidStorm, I had just forgotten), and it makes me sad that you may not attend another one because you might move on from Splatoon, but if we ever meet again, we'll be sure to chat again and take more pics together!

  • All of the commentators: You guys shouldn't be overlooked, because the work you do is AMAZING! Sadly, I didn't get a picture with most of you, but hey, that's all the more reason for me to go to SnS, right? Special shout-out to BestTeaMaker for all the work he put into the commentary guide that they used at G5.

  • Andy: Dude, I'm glad I finally got to meet ya, cause I was disappointed you couldn't make our E3 meetup back in June. You're every bit as cool of a person as I thought you were, and hopefully we'll meet up and chat more again soon!

  • Tina and PasteCat: No lie, you guys were two of the people I wanted to meet most at this event, because you are both very genuine and caring people who are a lot of fun to talk to, and it was a shame I hadn't been able to meet you guys are prior events you may have gone to (that mostly for PasteCat, as this was Tina's first LAN). Thank you for chilling with me and watching the matches at the stream setup, that was a TON of fun!

  • Hitzel: Sure, we had met before at SquidStorm Chicago and the E3 meetup, but that doesn't mean you're any less fun to talk to and hang out with! Definitely one of the more notable personalities in this community, I look forward to seeing you yet again at another meetup or LAN!

  • Mario: Dude, this is the fifth major LAN but the first time we finally got to meet. I am really glad you were able to sneak into registration right before it closed, because you were right at the top of my list of people I hadn't met yet that I wanted to meet. We may not have talked much at G5, but we did get a pic together (posted in a prior update), and will have to chill more at the next event we both go to!

  • Deep Blues (Taylor, Mars, Dei, Umbre): FINALLY I got to meet most of you (I met Taylor at the E3 meetup last summer), and while I probably didn't get to hang out with you guys as much as I would have liked, meeting you in person was every bit as wonderful as I had hoped, since you guys make every day an adventure for me on Discord. Someday, we'll meet up again, so you better be ready!!!

  • Fate and Hermes: Full disclosure, you two, along with the rest of my InkTV fam and Deep Blues, make me feel more at home in this community than just about anyone else. The importance of that cannot be understated in my opinion. I am very happy we got to see each other again, thank you to Hermes for letting Nine, Bread, and I crash at your dorm for the weekend, and hopefully we can hang more and meet up again at SnS 4!

  • Everyone who attended: Most importantly, I want to thank everyone who I talked to, asked to sign my poster, and who attended for making G5 one of the best events I have ever attended, for video games or otherwise. Despite the disputes we have online and everything else that causes us to go against one another, this really is a magical and wonderful community. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for allowing me to take this journey with you guys, and may we write many more chapters to this story together in the future!

Now that Splatoon at Genesis 5 has ended, I would like to thank all of EGtv staff for hosting and running this event, as it has been an AMAZING weekend and one of the best events I have ever attended. Special shoutouts to both A.C. and Eirik (photographed below, respectively) for all the work they do, both inside and outside the LANs, and I look forward to attending the next one!

Congratulations to STDx on winning their second straight LAN!!! They got knocked to losers bracket after losing winners finals, but charged through Team Olive and toppled Legacy in both grand finals and bracket reset to come away with the hard-earned win!

We have had an exceptional top 12 bracket so far, and the best part? The best may still be yet to come, as we are about to get into the top 4, starting with STDx and Legacy! If you aren't watching the EGtv stream for all the action, well, why aren't you???

Gooooooooooooooood MORNING, everyone! Hopefully all players and staff slept well last night and are ready for some insane action in day 2! The first match of the day will actually be a tiebreaker to determine final placings from yesterday, as InkTV's own Nine and Bread, along with their teammates Bob and Swiffy, will go toe to toe with Endless Oceans to see who makes the redemption bracket! Good luck to them and all teams competing today, let's see some awesome Splatoon 2 action!

Update time: 11:16 pm pacific standard time, Friday, January 19th, 2018

It was an AMAZING day 1!!!!! We saw some amazing sets on and off stream, a few upsets (2dos and his children beating STDx, anyone?), and a few surprise teams making a much higher position than expected, and good on them! Plus, I got to meet some awesome people in person, and more pics will be on the way tomorrow!

Tonight's pictures include me with T1mmy and T0mmy of Super Splat Squids (who finished third in wave C), 2dos (who finished first in wave C), and Mario (who's team finished fourth in wave B).

Finally done with Swiss pools for the day, and BOY, did I have fun!!! Took a picture with my team, InkSync, before we began, and as of this update, we have found a way to sneak into the redemption bracket which is everything we could have asked for!

Pool A just wrapped up, and I want to personally congratulate Saffron Rice for beating both Deep Blues and Yami in the final two rounds to claim first place in their Swiss group, guaranteeing them and Komodo top cut! In other news, I've continued to meet many people at the event, and snapped a quick picture with my good friends Hermes and Fate!

We've had some REALLY intense sets so far as round 3 just wrapped up, including Komodo/KOMRADES and Deep Blues/Yami, the latter of which went to a decisive game 5 and Deep Blues staved off Yami in overtime!

Update time: 11:15 pm pacific standard time, Thursday, January 19th, 2018

We spent most of the afternoon and evening helping set things up for tomorrow, and the venue is AMAZING!!! We received our badges and stress tested a setup of Switches, among other things. I was also personally able to meet many people that I haven't seen since SquidStorm 2016, and others that I have never met before, such as Fate, Bob, Hitzel, AC, Eirik, Fuchsia, BestTeaMaker, and many more! I also took several pictures of the venue, of which I've chosen to upload a picture of our Switch testing setup and the Genesis 5 badge I received (with a SplatStats sticker courtesy of BTM).
